In Glint, Christopher R. Inwood distils self-portraiture to its most sensitive and searching. His face emerges from a field of the “bluest blue that can be blued” – a colour both infinite and intimate, at once possessing and vulnerable. The blue becomes more than a backdrop; it is atmosphere, emotion and the psychological space in which thoughts are held and revealed. the title speaks to a moment – brief, bright, and elusive – when something catches the light. It suggests intuition, resilience and the quiet persistence of something unbroken. Inwood’s gaze is steady yet inward, alert to the world turned towards the self. There is no performance here, only presence. Part of the unseen Cannon Fodder Blue Collection. Glint continues Inwood’s exploration of masculinity and the private emotional lives of men. Small in scale yet profound in feeling, the painting is unflinching and tender offering neither defense nor defeat, but a hard-won clarity. Glint rewards close looking. It is a portrait of a man, and a meditation on awareness – the spark that keeps us open, alive and becoming.
