'Mid-Century Monopoly' is an exploration of character and colour, built through layers of textured acrylics. I wanted to create a sense of presence, using a bold charcoal figure that anchors the composition against blocks of vibrant, earthy red and olive green. The painting balances structured, mid-century modern geometry with more spontaneous, tactile marks that reward "slow looking." As you move closer, you’ll find scratched lines and thick brushstrokes that give the surface a raw, energetic feel, making it feel less like a static portrait and more like a figure in mid-journey. My work is heavily influenced by the interplay between architecture and identity. For this piece, I drew inspiration from the clean lines and organic palettes of mid-century design, reimagining them as a backdrop for a charismatic, almost tribal figure. Mid-Century Monopoly is my attempt to capture that moment of quiet confidence where order meets gesture.
About the Artist
Driven by the spirit of abstract expressionism, I deconstruct the world into a dynamic series of foundational shapes, intuitive mark-making, and vivid colour explorations. Through dense layering and intricate patterning, my work transforms raw impulse into a complex visual language that invites deep viewer discovery. Driven by an intuitive abstract expressionist approach, Fiona Reeve trusts her instincts implicitly, letting marks organically lead to marks across textiles, printmaking, and mixed media. Grounded in over 30 years of creation and shaped by years of global travel, her work translates inspiration from around the world into a rich visual language of shape, line, texture, and colour.
