About the Artist

Leisl Baker is an intuitive and energetic painter whose work is instantly recognisable for its bold brushwork, clever use of colour and evocative quality. Leisl is best known for her landscape work. Working both en plein air and in her Toowoomba studio, Leisl aims to capture the essence of a time and place in her paintings.

Leisl has been painting full time since 2017 and her work has been shortlisted in numerous national awards for landscape including the Paddington Art Prize (x3) and the Hadley’s Prize for Landscape.

Leisl’s landscape work was also featured in the 2018 Thames & Hudson publication ‘A Painted Landscape’ by Amber Creswell Bell.

For Leisl, landscape painting extends to paintings of the immediate foreground and her recent body of work 'Garden Party' takes the viewer right into garden beds bursting into flower.

Leisl enjoys painting botanical, interior and still life work to explore composition, colour and light more intensely.
