About the Artist

Geoffrey’s artwork is heavily influenced by the natural world and most of his pieces involve water in some way. Geoffrey's art is a blend of abstract and realism. He strives to create pieces that evoke emotion. With regular visits to the Saltwater Coast and the Great Ocean Road, Geoffrey draws his inspiration from the nature around him and translates it onto his paintings. His works are vivid, colourful and full of life, depicting the pure beauty of the ocean and its wildlife. Born in 1948 and raised in New Zealand my interest in art began when I left school and started work in a frame shop. I later opened a small gallery and through that met my mentor Michael Blow, a professional artist. I have no formal training and am primarily self taught. I moved to Perth Australia in 2011 then on to Melbourne in 2019. Now a full time artist I have time to pursue my lifelong ambition to create affordable art. I am inspired by the vibrant colours of the Australian landscape, most of my work involves water and the visual drama of the constantly changing elements against the costal landscape. The essence of my work is not the water but the mystery behind the depiction of light, and the depth of colour.
