About the Artist

Gautam Jhanjee is an Australian–Indian artist working across symbolic and figurative painting, exploring structure, rhythm and form. Gautam Jhanjee is an Australian–Indian artist based in Canberra. His work moves between symbolic and figurative, often working at different scales and across canvas, paper and wood panel. Alongside larger compositions, he returns regularly to the Australian magpie, using it as a subject through which structure, rhythm and movement can be explored.

He paints in a direct and responsive way, allowing images to emerge through the process itself rather than from a fixed plan. Over time, individual works begin to form groupings, which develop into exhibition collections.

Jhanjee has held a major solo exhibition in Canberra in 2025 and his work has been supported by arts funding from the ACT Government.

His larger works explore archetypal and symbolic themes across cultures.
