Darren King

Darren King's art captures the beauty in the everyday and occasionally attempts to revive long forgotten favourites. Based near Wollongong on the NSW South Coast artist Darren has been honing his skills in collage, printmaking, mixed media and painting for the past 10+ years.

King's work is heavily influenced by pop art and drenched in nostalgia. Creating artwork that celebrates the local, the joyous, the small-scale, the tasty, the abandoned and the ordinary.

Darren’s focus prior to rediscovering his love of painting/printmaking in his 40’s was primarily spent building his printing, graphic design business and family life.

Trained in Fine Arts, cartooning, illustration, graphic design and screen printing, his work attempts to fuse elements from each of these practices.

After recently rediscovering collage, Darren King now creates a selection of paintings entirely made from recycled paper. Discarded magazines, junk mail, maps, paper bags and old books are all harvested for interesting pieces to create original, vibrant, textural artworks.

In recent years Darren King's work has been exhibited and sold throughout Australia and internationally.
